Grand Royal Wedding Day 2 – 2

Today it’s the bride’s day to shine. Making our way to the bride’s hometown in an entourage of vehicles. The groom will get dressed at his home in the traditional Marwari attire wearing either an achkan over which he generally dons a jodhpuri or a sherwani. Accompanied with churidar pajama pants with the above mentioned garments. A turban on his head made of traditional Marwari red or yellow bandhini printed cloth. The turban is held together by a traditional jewellery known as Sarpech. Slipping a pair of typical Rajasthani jootis on his feet. He wears a Kamarbandh as well where he may or may not tuck in the Sword that he is supposed to carry. Such a regal handsome look he will project for his bride to blush over. We have an early lunch and convoy to the bride’s hometown which will be a 4hr drive from the village. The whole wedding party is called Baraat which refers to the wedding procession accompanying the groom as he sets off for the wedding destination. When we arrive late afternoon at the bride’s hometown we are greeted by the bride’s family. After welcoming us we will be served snacks. Later the groom will be taken to the actual venue for holy ritual in presence of a priest. Before the ritual you will have your dinner. After the pledges have been made the father of the bride places the hand of his daughter on top of the groom’s. The groom accepts the bride’s hands from her father and the Paanigrahan ritual is completed by tying a sacred thread over the unified hands. After Paanigrahan, the couple takes the Pheras. Here, the bride and the groom circulate the sacred fire four times. For the first three Phreas, the bride precedes the groom, and during the last phera she follows the groom around the fire.
